Games at the Library

Come play a game at the library!  Ask at the 1st Floor Reference Desk for any of the games listed below.  Groups larger than six may need to make reservations either in person or by calling 801-852-6661.

7 Wonders 2-7 30 min. Ages 10+ You are the leader of one of the 7 great cities of the Ancient World. Gather resources, develop commercial routes and affirm your military supremacy.
A-MAZE-ing Labyrinth, The 2-4 20 min. Ages 8+ Labyrinth is the race for treasures in a moving maze! Find the shortest route through the labyrinth to win. Reach all your treasures and targets, using the shortest possible route through the labyrinth, and be the first back to the start point.  The labyrinth can change at any time as players manipulate the route to block others players from winning.
Apples to Apples Jr. 4-10 30 min. Ages 9+ Based on the popular card and party game, Apples to Apples, this Junior version gives kids hilarious, fast-paced fun while also building their vocabulary and thinking skills.
Apples  to Apples Party in a Box 4-8 30 min. Ages 12+ Select the card from your hand that you think is best described by a card played by the judge. Each round is filled with surprising and outrageous comparisons from a wide range of people, places, things and events.
Avalon 5-10 30 min. Ages 13+ Avalon: the Resistance pits the forces of good and evil in a battle to control civilization. King Arthur represents the future of Britain, but unscrupulous minions of Mordred are hidden among his warriors. Merlin alone knows the identities of the agents of evil but he can only speak in riddles.
Bananagrams 1-8 15 min. Ages 7+ Race each other to be the first to build a crossword using all of your tiles. In this game, speed and not points win the game.
Bang: The Dice Game 3-8 15 min. Ages 8+ Set in the Wild West, players receive cards that place them on a team: sheriff and deputies, outlaws, or renegades. Character cards grant special powers in the game as players roll the dice and use the results to shoot neighboring players, heal themselves or other players, or get in range of the Indians.
Boggle 1-8 10 min. Ages 8+ Earn points by spotting words your friends don’t before time runs out.
Carcassonne 2-5 45 min. Ages 8+ In Carcassonne, players build the area surrounding this impressive city, one tile at a time. They then place a follower on fields, cities, roads or monasteries in order to score as many points as possible. These followers will become knights, monks, farmers and thieves, depending on where they are placed. No matter their function, the player who most cleverly uses their followers wins the game.
Checkers 30 min. Ages 6+ Each player moves a piece across the board diagonally once per turn. A player may only make a single move unless he makes a capturing move, also known as a jump. The game ends when one player can no longer make a move.
Chess 2 60 min. Ages 6+

Players take turns moving one of their pieces in an attempt to capture, attack, defend, or develop their positions.

Chinese Checkers 2-6 30 min. Ages 6+ Players jump over their own and/or their opponents' pieces with the objective of being the first to move all their pieces from one side to the opposing side.
Cinq-O 1-6 10 min. Ages 7+ Cinq-O is the fun, portable dice game where you build up points by trying to roll the perfect Hi score or the perfect Lo score. The first player to get 100 points wins--but how you get there is up to you!
Clue 3-6 30 min. Ages 8+ Clue is a murder mystery game. As players move around the board they collect clues to help them solve the mystery.
Cockroach Poker 2-6 20 min. Ages 6+ Play with cards of bugs and critters instead of queens in this bluffing game. Force another player to collect four cards of the same creature by handing them a card face-down with a claim of which bug it is. They guess true or false, and if they are wrong they keep the card.
Concept 4-12 40 min. Ages 10+ Discover a new means of communication in Concept, an easy-to-learn but frequently challenging party game. Using a board covered in icons, you and your fellow players attempt to silently convey concepts such as 'Dinosaur,' 'Eiffel Tower,' or 'Sigmund Freud.'
Connect 4x4 2-4 15 min. Ages 8+ Connect 4X4 is a strategy game where players place pieces in a vertical playing field to line up pieces horizontally, diagonally or vertically. Connect 4X4 uses a three dimensional, double-sided grid with two different kinds of playing pieces and can be played by two to four players at once.
Coup 2-6  15 min. Ages 9+ Players take on roles as the head of a family in an Italian city-state. Bluffing, bribing and manipulating their way to power, the goal is to destroy the influence of other families and force them into exile.
Dice       Comes with a book of different games to play with dice.
Dixit 3-6 30 min. Ages 6+ Each player makes up a short phrase about the images on their card. With every player's card a secret, it's all about trying to figure out which cards are bluffing and which one really belongs to the storyteller.
Foam Dice       These larger (1 3/4" cubed) dice will allow you to play most dice games, without the noise.  Comes with a book of different games to play with dice.
Forbidden Island 2-4 30 min. Ages 10+ In the board game Forbidden Island, players become adventurers looking for hidden treasures as the island sinks. Players cooperate to find all the treasures and overcome obstacles to make it back to the rescue helicopter before the island sinks.
Guillotine 2-5 30 min. Ages 12+ This irreverent and humorous card game takes place during the French Revolution. Players represent rival guillotine operators vying for the best collection of noble heads over three rounds.
Harry Potter Scene It 2-4 60 min. Ages 8+

Race your friends around the game board as you rely on observation, memory and puzzle solving to crack over 1,000 on-screen and trivia card challenges based on the early Harry Potter movies!

Hit the Deck 2-6 20 min. Ages 8+ Hit The Deck is a card game that requires clever strategy (and a little luck) to win. In each hand you discard your cards in an attempt to be the first empty-handed player, but you better play your cards right or you may be "hit" by the deck and suddenly have a handful of new cards.
Jenga 1+ 20 min. Ages 6+ Stack the blocks in a sturdy tower, then one by one pull out a block until the tower falls. Don’t be the one to collapse the tower!
King of Tokyo 2-6 30 min. Ages 8+ Each player is a monster, robot, or alien, all of whom are happily whacking each other to become the one and only King of Tokyo. The fiercest player will be crowned King of Tokyo and will end up facing all the other monsters alone. In order to win the game one must either destroy Tokyo or be the only surviving monster once the fighting has ended.
Loaded Questions 4-6 45 min. Ages 13+ Loaded Questions is a multiplayer game that tests your knowledge of other people's opinions as you race your opponents. By correctly guessing your fellow player's answers to probing, opinion-oriented questions, you advance around the board.
Loaded Questions Jr. 4-6 45 min. Ages 8+ The player's goal is to go from Start to Win by rolling dice, drawing question cards corresponding to the color landed on, and soliciting anonymous answers to the question from other players. The acting player must decide which answer belongs to which other player and receives points for each correct guess. Points allow the player to advance further along the board.
Love Letter 2-4 20 min. Ages 10+ Love Letter is a game of deduction and risk. As you compete with the other players to get closer to the princess you risk being found out and discovered as your true self.
Mad Gab Picto-Gabs Card Game 2-12 30 min. Ages 10+ Put your eyes and ears to the test as you decipher funny puzzles made up of pictures and words.
Monopoly Deal Card Game 2-5 15 min. Ages 8+ In this fast-paced card game collect 3 property sets, but beware of Debt Collectors, Forced Deals, and the dreaded Deal Breakers which can change your fortunes at any time!
Non-Violent, Politically Correct War 2-4 30 min. Ages 4+ This politically correct game of War incorporates Love, Peace, Diversity and Unity. Players compete to get rid of their cards first, while trying to avoid the heavily-armed Joker, which has the lowest value.
Othello 2 30 min. Ages 8+ Trap other pieces between your own to capture them, but be aware that the opponent may do the same. Pieces will change sides (colors) dozens of times. The winner is the one with the most pieces when no more pieces can be played on the board.
Operation Star Wars 1+   Ages 6+

The wonderful world of Star Wars combines with the long trusted game of Operation for hours of fun!

Pandemic 2-4 45 min. Ages 8+ Pandemic is a cooperative board game. Players try to work together to save the world from the spread of disease and world panic.
Pass the Pigs 2-10 30 min. Ages 8+ Pass the Pigs is a dice game using miniature pigs as the dice. The object of the game is to be the first player to reach 100 points.
Phase 10 2-6 45 min. Ages 8+ A rummy-style game where players compete to be the first to finish all ten phases. Each phase challenges players to lay down a certain run or set of numbers and/or colors.
Pictureka 2-7 30 min. Ages 6+ In this game, the board is always changing. Roll the dice to draw a mission card, and then complete the mission. The first player to complete ten missions wins!
Pictureka Card Game 2+ 15 min. Ages 6+ Play four great card games that’ll get your creative juices flowing! First, point out an image starting with a chosen letter before the other players spot it! In the second game, race to get rid of your cards by finding “mission” pics. Third, test your matching skills and pick out pairs before your peers do. And finally, get creative and combine cards to complete missions.
Pit 3-8 45 min. Ages 7+

Get a taste of trading on the commodities market. Shout your deal and trade your cards to try to “corner” the market. Be the first to get all the cards of one commodity and ring the bell to win that hand. You’ll feel like a real trader in the “pits” of the exchange.

Sagrada 1-4 30 min. Ages 14+ As a skilled artisan, use tools-of-the-trade and careful planning to construct a stained glass window masterpiece in the Sagrada Familia. Gain prestige by adapting to the preferences of your fickle admirers, and of course, by adding your own artistic flair while completing your glass masterpiece in Sagrada.
Scrabble 2-4 90 min. Ages 13+ Use your letters to build words, score points, and challenge your family and friends. It’s your word against theirs!
Scrabble Slam 2-4 15 min. Ages 8+ Players are dealt four cards and create a four-letter word to begin the game. Change the word one letter at a time, and the first player out of cards wins.
Settlers of Catan 3-4 90 min. Ages 10+ On an uncharted island, settlers build roads and buildings, develop natural resources and compete to become the dominant force.
Skill 3-6 30 min. Ages 14+ A bluffing game where players place their cards face down until someone feels brave enough to think they will only get roses on their bid, as people raise the bid higher and higher.
Skip-Bo 2-6 20 min. Ages 7+ Players must create stacks of numerically sequenced cards. The first player to use all their cards is the winner.
Spot It! 2-8 15 min. Ages 7+ Spot It! is a simple pattern recognition game in which players try to find an image shown on two cards.
SpyFall 3-8 15 min. Ages 13+ Who is the Spy? As you and the other players try to find out who doesn’t belong, the spy is trying to figure out everyone's location. This a fun, quick game in which each round finishes in 8 minutes or less.
Sushi Go 2-5 15 min. Ages 8+ Fast action card game where players score points for collecting the most sushi rolls and try to collect the most pudding cards by the end of the game.
Tokaido 2-5 45 min. Ages 8+ Each player is a traveler crossing the “East Sea Road,” one of the most magnificent roads of Japan. While traveling, players will meet people, taste fine meals, collect beautiful items, discover great panoramas and visit temples and wild places. The traveler who discovers the most interesting and varied things wins.
Takenoko 2-4 45 min. Ages 8+ The Emperor of China has gifted the Emperor of Japan a treasured Panda. Help the gardener as you try to feed the panda, grow bamboo, and grow a beautiful garden.
Ticket to Ride 2-5 45 min. Ages 8+ Each player tries to complete their various train lines, earning more points for having the longest route.
Tsuro 2-8 20 min. Ages 8+ In the beautiful tile laying path game Tsuro, all you have to do is stay on the board to win. With paths constantly changing, this is easier said than done. Move wisely and achieve enlightenment and then, of course, the joy of winning when your opponents are knocked off the board.
Twister Hoopla 2-4   Ages 6+

It's Twister with a twist! Instead of the game mat, you get 16 colorful rings and five different ways to play.

Uno 2-10 30 min. Ages 7+ Play by matching the cards’ color or number, or play an Action Card against your opponents. When you’re down to one card, don’t forget to yell “UNO!”
Wits and Wagers 3-10 20 min. Ages 8+ Ask a question then everyone writes down a guess. People then award points based on who they think has the closest answer.
Yahtzee Hands Down 2-5 15 min. Ages 8+ Yahtzee fun in the form of a card game. Collect the traditional combinations with cards instead of dice.
Zombie Dice 4-8 20 min. Ages 10+ You are zombies, and you want brains! Eat more brains than your friends before the shotgun blasts end your turn!
