Current Volunteer Opportunities
The Library's volunteering needs are as follows:
Children's:
- Children's Storytimes: The Children's Department currently needs assistance with their Tuesday - Friday storytimes. Volunteers could choose to work any of the four days, and shifts run from 10:00 - 12:00 noon. Volunteers help our professional storytellers pass out materials, keep children under control, and more. Volunteers for this position must be able to commit to weekly service through December 2010; all storytime volunteers must also be over the age of 18.
- Shelf Cleaning: The Children's Department is in need of deep-shelf cleaning. Volunteers working on this project would be removing the bottom shelves of each bay of books to retrieve fallen items, cleaning shelves, and noting any damage to the stacks. This particular project requires a detail-oriented individual who can volunteer one or two hours a week.
Technical Services:
- Collections Repair/New Materials Preparation: The Technical Services Department is currently looking for two volunteers to help prepare new materials (such as paperback books and DVDs) for circulation, as well as repair damaged materials. Volunteers looking to work in Technical Services must have volunteered one month at the Provo City Library before being trained to repair/prepare Library materials.
