The 2016 Summer Reading Program ended Saturday, July30

Any Provo City Library cardholder in good standing is eligible to participate.

Note: 12 and 18 year-olds can choose which program to participate in (must turn 12 by July 30, 2016 to participate in the Teen program). Just select the desired program during registration.

Participation Rules for the Adult and Teen Summer Reading Programs

Reading goal:

  • Read a minimum of 3 books by July 29, 2016.
    • Reading more than 3 books, gives you chances to win more prizes.

Rules:

  • To be eligible, books must be read during the 2016 Summer Reading Program, June 4 – July 29, 2016. Books finished prior to June 4, 2016 cannot be logged.
  • Books MUST be 100 pages or longer.
  • Books are not required to be checked out from Provo City Library.
  • Book reviews must be at least 3 sentences long and written in your own words.
  • Books read can count for one Challenge and also be entered on the reading log but cannot be used for more than one Challenge.
  • The last day to log any books is Friday, July 29 at 12:00 midnight.
  • Provo City Library reserves the right to reject submissions not complying with all the rules.
  • No prize ticket entries for Silver level prizes will be accepted after 9:00 pm on Saturday, August 5.
  • All prizes are limited and only available while supplies last.
  • Library staff and their immediate family are ineligible for any prize drawing (Gold and Silver level prizes).

Log Books:

  • After reading a book that complies with the rules, log into your account and click on, “I read a book!” Here, you will be asked to enter the title, author, and your review (at least 3 sentences).
  • You will earn 10 points for every book correctly logged.
  • Some medals may also be earned by logging books read.

Secret Codes:

  • Secret codes are given out for attending Library programs and completing certain Challenges.
  • To earn the medal associated with the program or challenge, enter the secret code on the home page dashboard of your summer reading account.
  • Secret codes will be given out at the end of all Library programs during June and July.
    • Codes will only be given out at this time and cannot be given out again if lost.
  • After completing a Challenge, go to either the 1st Floor or Children's Reference Desk to receive your secret code.

  • All secret codes are entered in lower case and with no spaces.

Complete Challenges:

  • Challenges are activities designed to explore reading, highlight library resources, and to just have fun.
  • Completing Challenges can earn you points and medals.
  • A list of Challenges and their instructions can be found by clicking on Challenges after logging into your summer reading account.
    • In addition, the Medals Gallery includes all medals that can be earned either by reading, completing Challenges, or attending Library programs.

Attend Library Programs:

  • Medals and points can be earned by attending Library Programs throughout the summer.
    • After logging in, a complete list of library programs can be found in the Events section or find more information on the Library’s website.

Earn Points:

  • Points are earned by reading and then logging books, completing Challenges, and attending Library programs.
  • For every 30 points earned, you will be awarded one Bronze level prize.
    • Note: When you win a prize, you will receive a message on your account. Be sure to click on mail to check for these messages.

Earn Medals:

  • Medals are also unlocked by reading and then logging books, completing Challenges, and attending Library programs. Medals can be unlocked by accumulating points.
  • Additionally, each medal unlocked gives you one entry ticket to be used for the Silver level prizes at the end of the program.
    • Your ticket entries can be picked up beginning at 11:00 am on July 30 at the End of Summer Reading Party in the Park (North Park) and continue to be picked up after the party at the 1st Floor Reference Desk through 9:00 pm on Friday, August 5.
      • Buckets for prize drawings will be at Provo’s North Park on Saturday, July 30 from 11:00 am – 12:30 pm for the End of Summer Reading Pool Party & Beyond. After that, they will be at the 1st Floor Reference Desk until 9:00 pm on Friday, August 5. No more ticket entries will be accepted after this time.
  • Some medals earned will also unlock cool new sports outfits for your avatar.
    • In the notification pop-up window for earning a medal, you will also be notified if an avatar outfit is unlocked.

Unlock Avatars:

  • Customize your own avatar by unlocking cool new sport outfits. Reading, completing Challenges, attending Library programs, and earning points all have the chance to unlock a new outfit.
  • Exclusive avatar outfits can be unlocked by earning points throughout the summer.

Win Prizes:

Completion prize = Sports water bottle
Bronze prizes = Treats and small prizes

Silver prizes = 25 big prizes
Gold prize = iPad Air 2

Completion Prize:

  • Participants who read and log a minimum of 3 books will earn a sports water bottle.
  • You will be notified through the mail section of your Summer Reading account.
  • Water bottles can be claimed at the 1st Floor Reference Desk while supplies last (500 available).

Bronze Level:

  • Small prizes and treats can be won by earning points. 30 points = 1 prize
  • Bronze prizes include treats such as candy bars and healthier snacks, LED flashlights, earbuds, bookmarks, and more.
  • You will be notified through the mail section of your Summer Reading account.
  • Pick up prizes at the 1st Floor Reference Desk.
  • Prizes are only available while supplies last.

Silver Level:

  • 25 big prizes including $150 Amazon gift card, Fitbit, local restaurant gift cards, iTunes gift card, and more will be drawn on Saturday, August 6, 2016.
  • Ticket entries are awarded for the Silver prize drawing by unlocking medals.
    • Each medal unlocked gives you one ticket entry.
  • Your ticket entries can be picked up beginning at 11:00 am on July 30 at the End of Summer Reading Party in the Park (North Park) and continue to be picked up after the party at the 1st Floor Reference Desk through 9:00 pm on Friday, August 5.
    • Buckets for prize drawings will be located at Provo’s North Park on Saturday, July 30 from 11:00 am – 12:30 pm for the End of Summer Reading Pool Party & Beyond. After that they will be available at the 1st Floor Reference Desk until 9:00 pm on Friday August 5.
      • No ticket entries will be accepted after 9:00 pm on Friday August 5.
  • Winners will be notified via phone or email by Monday, August 8.

Gold Level:

  • After reading and logging 3 books, participants will be automatically entered into the Gold Prize drawing for an iPad Air 2.
    • Two iPads will be awarded. One for the Teen program, teens ages 12-18 and one for the Adult program, adults ages 18 and up.
    • The drawing will be held Saturday, August 6 and the winners will be notified by Monday, August 8.
  • Logging 3 books also gives you and your immediate family admission to the End of Summer Reading Pool Party & Beyond.
    • Admission tickets can be picked up beginning Tuesday, July 26 through the morning of Saturday, July 30 at either the Children's or the 1st Floor Reference Desks.

End of Summer Reading Pool Party & Beyond:

The former grand prize party has been combined with the kids’ pool party! This will be an exclusive pool party for those who reach their reading goal for the Summer Reading Program.

After reaching your summer reading goal, you will earn admission for yourself and your immediate family to the pool party. Admission tickets can be picked up beginning July 26 through the morning of July 30.

After swimming and treats, head over to North Park (right next to the pool), to play Olympic themed lawn games and make crafts. We will also have popsicles!

Participants of the Teen and Adult programs can also enter any tickets earned from unlocking medals into the entry box of your choice for 25 different Silver level prizes.*

*Prizes will be drawn and winners will be notified via phone or email by Monday, August 8.
