If you are seeing this page, our Wireless Firewall is BLOCKING your computer from making network connections.

The Firewall is blocking your computer because it is attempting to make too many connections to the internet, on the order of hundreds to thousands of connections in a very short space of time. This many connections by one computer causes bandwidth problems for our network. We block access to the internet by such computers to preserve the internet connection of everyone else in the library.

Your computer may be making all these connections due to either a peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing program, a “download accelerator” program/browser-extension or you may be infected with a virus or malware.

To make sure you will not be blocked again, try these steps:

  • Turn off / disable, disconnect or uninstall any file sharing (P2P) programs like: eMule, eDonkey, BearShare, BitTorrent, LimeWire, Vuze, etc.
  • Temporarily turn off any video streaming programs that run in your task bar.
  • Run a scan with your antivirus program. If you don’t have one, there are free versions available to download: AVG Free, Avira, Bit Defender, Avast, Comodo, etc.
  • Run a scan with an anti-spyware or anti-malware program. If you do not have one, there are free versions available to download: Spybot Search and Destroy (Spybot S & D), Malwarebytes, Super Anti-Spyware, Ad-aware Free, etc.

If all else fails, please ask a Librarian for help.
