eReader Devices

Display types:

E-Ink (Electronic Ink) Displays
E-ink devices have high contrast, black and white screens designed to mimic ink on a printed page. E-ink was invented for ease of reading especially outdoors or in well-lit areas. They are also known for their long battery life which can last for two or more weeks. The Kindle, Nook, Sony Reader, and more all have E-ink displays.

E-ink devices are also known as dedicated eReaders which means their primary function is for reading eBooks. Most dedicated eReaders will also play downloadable audiobooks. Some devices may access email or have limited web browsing.

LCD Displays (Liquid Crystal Display)
LCD displays are full color, backlit screens. Backlit screens produce their own light allowing devices to be used in the dark, but also drain the battery much more quickly than E-ink screens. Tablets such as the iPad, smart phones, Nook Tablet, and Kindle Fire all have LCD displays.

Devices with LCD displays are designed for multiple uses such as watching videos, browsing the internet, and playing games.
