- Use of personal flash drives permitted.
- Microsoft Word available on all computers.
Internet Access:
Internet access is provided to patrons at over 50 computer workstations. See FAQ for more information.
To access the Internet you must have a library card in good standing. Computer use is on a first come, first served basis. The only sign-up required is your library card information entered when you log on. Library card holders in good standing are entitled to 90 minutes of Internet access per day.
Wireless and wired LAN access are available for people who wish to use their personal laptops. A valid library card is still required to access this network, but the 90-minute time limit does not apply. Please remember to bring your own cable/s. Printing from your laptop to the Library’s printers will no be possible.
What does “library card in good standing” mean?
- The card was issued by Provo City Library OR is an Orem card registered at the Provo City Library.
- The borrower has no more than $5.00 in overdue fines.
- The borrower has no overdue items.
- The card is current (has not expired).
To obtain a Provo Library Card:
Library cards are free to residents of Provo and Orem. If more than one member of a family will be accessing the Internet, each family member must have his/her own card.
- Present your completed form at the Check-out Desk with TWO forms of ID: photo identification AND another different proof of your residence address.
Temporary Internet cards are available if you don’t have time to register for a Provo Library card or are not a resident of Provo/Orem. Temporary Internet cards are available at both Reference Desks. A card costs $1.00 and may be used for up to 90 minutes of Internet access on the day of purchase. These cards cannot be used for any other library services.
Is printing available?
Black and white printouts can be made from any Internet computer and will be retrieved by a librarian at the adjacent Reference Desk. Cost per page is 10 cents. We can only accept cash or checks as payment at the Reference Desks.
Color inkjet printouts are only available by request at the Reference Desks. Because of limited staff time, we require
- A maximum of 3 print-outs.
- The document, web page, or picture to be printed saved on a disk or flash drive OR the exact URL provided in writing.
- 50 cents per page (cash or check).
Watch the countdown clock. Please be aware that we cannot change the 90-minute time limit. The computer will log off at the end of your time, so please save your work frequently—and keep an eye on the countdown clock.
You may sometimes have to wait for a computer due to the heavy use of our Internet service. Patrons who are waiting for the next available computer line up on the south side of the Reference Desk on each floor.
The Provo City Library’s Internet and Online Access Policy outlines what you can expect from us as we provide you with Internet access and what we expect from you every time you logon to one of our public access computers. A condensed version of this policy is part of the logon process. If you would like to read the entire policy, it is available at the Reference Desks or on the Library’s website here.
